If you think you’ve got what it takes and want to continue to excel in bouldering and sport climbing, try out for our Open Performance Team!
We have up to six new spots available for athletes (16 years old and older) to represent Climb Base5’s Open Performance Team for the 2016/2017 season. If you’re selected, you will receive two days of coaching per week and a personalized training program, gain experience from our veteran coaching staff, and have the chance to train with an inspiring group of athletes that share the same passion for the sport.
To apply, interested athletes will need to fill out the online application where they will be asked to share their climbing background, their personal and professional climbing goals, and to list their competition and training experience. If selected, applicants will then be invited to an assessment camp in August where they will be evaluated and interviewed.
The final selection for new athletes to join the Open Performance Team will be made no later than August 27th.? Click here to read more about the Open Performance Team and to apply. The deadline to apply is August 2nd.
The coaching staff for our Open Performance Team includes Matt Johnson, an assistant coach with the Youth National Team, Len Chong, a physiotherapist who specializes in the biomechanical analysis of climbing movement and training methods, and former National Team Head Coach Andrew Wilson. Andrew had this to say about the Team and its training program:
“The distinct thing is the 50 years of high performance and competition coaching experience among the coaching staff, which allows us to focus on athletes in competition tactics and strategies.”
Noteworthy accomplishments for our 2016 team includes Simon Parton, the second Canadian (after Sean McColl), climbing the V15 grade, and Alannah Yip becoming the national lead and boulder champion. Alannah along with another team athlete Maria Celkova have appeared in multiple bouldering world cup events.
