Eats, Beats, and Treats

** Party was awesome! Here are some photos **

Our annual Grillin’ and Chillin party is on Saturday, October 15th. We love our community and this is a way for us to share the love. Come out to meet the community – bring your family and friends too – and enjoy good food, beer, contests, and, of course, climbing! We’re all about being inclusive so this party is for any and everyone, but space is limited. Are you ready to party?

Tickets* go on sale from October 1st.

  • $10 ($5 for members) – early bird price (before Oct 7th)
  • $12 ($7 for members) – after Oct 7th or at the door on Oct 15th

*Tickets include food and beer. Admission is free for members! If you’re a member, the ticket price is only for food and beer – if you don’t plan to eat or drink, there is no charge and we will not issue a ticket. Tickets can be purchased at the gym during opening hours.

There’s going to be a lot happening at the party from 6pm to midnight… here’s a break down:

Local food truck regulars, Chick Pea, will be serving up delicious vegetarian Israeli food… Rotem and Itamar are our new best friends!

Dan Poggi (centre) taking a selfie with our new best friends Rotem Tal and Itamar Shani from ChickPea!

Dan’s going to be taking off his owner hat and putting on a chef hat keeping the BBQ going all night long… while our go-to foodie provider and amazing socializer, Browns Social House from New Westminster, will be party with us and helping out with cooking, organizing and serving!

Hops, Suds, Brew – whatever you want to call it, we’re lucky to have Vancouver’s Red Truck Beer on tap to keep the beer flowing throughout the night. (Please drink responsibly… and if you plan to drink, don’t drive!)

Costume Prize

Tank tops and shorts/capri pants are standard climbing wear these days… but if you ever wanted to turn it up a notch, this is your chance! We’ll be handing out prizes for both guys and girls on the best costume you can come up with. The only criteria is to keep it tasteful and family-friendly!

Dyno Comp

Who doesn’t like watching or doing dynos? We’re setting up a dyno comp (men’s, women’s and under-14 categories)… get ready to impress Hayden Jones and Andrew Wilson, our route-setters and dyno judges!

If you want to join the dyno comp at the party, make sure to arrive early. The comp will start at 6:30pm until 8pm. You can sign up at the front desk from 6-6:30pm.

Here’s a video from last year of what to expect:

6-month Membership Sale

Joining Climb Base5 as a member isn’t just about the climbing, but about being a part of a close-knit community with benefits. For this reason, we’re offering a special 6-month membership on party day! This is a one-day only offer.

  • Cost: $369
  • In addition to our regular membership benefits, you get 2x the amount of climbing for only a $100 more than our regular 3-month pass!
  • How to sign up? Just talk our desk staff when you come in on Saturday, October 15th.

Support Chloé to rappel down a skyscraper as Merida from Brave

We like climbing. But sometimes coming down is as fun as going up. It’s even more fun when it means dressing up as a superhero and rappelling down a 20-story office building in the middle of downtown Vancouver!

This year, like every year since 2011, Climb Base5 will be sponsoring the Easter Seals Drop Zone in Vancouver taking pace on September 13th. Drop Zones have been taking place all over Canada since early August and we’re proud and honored not only to be sponsoring the event in Vancouver, but also to be providing the staff, training, and resources to make sure the event goes off without a hitch… just watch last year’s video and you’ll see some familiar faces!

This year will also be personal for Climb Base5 as Chloé Earle, one of our youth athletes and a member of Canada’s Youth National Difficulty Team, has signed up to fundraise for the event. Since there’s only 100 rappel spots available, we want to ask our community to help her get up that building so she can come down!

I’ve been very fortunate to travel, compete, make new friends, and experience new challenges through climbing. None of this would be possible without the emotional and financial support from my family and friends. I wish to support Easter Seals because all kids deserve to have life-enriching experiences and fun – no matter their abilities or disabilities!

Part of the fun with Drop Zone is that people can choose to dress up as their favorite super hero. Forget Spiderman… Chloé plans to dress up as Merida from Disney/Pixar’s 2012 animated feature film, Brave, if she gets the chance to rappel down a skyscraper.

I want to participate in Drop Zone Vancouver as Merida because she’s a strong, fearless, and freedom-loving red-headed girl just like me!

Please make a donation to support Chloé… so she can be one of the 100 people who will get the chance to participate in the event.

You can also register for a 2-hour Climb Time Session on September 10th at 2pm. We’re offering a 40% discount to anyone who books their spot! All proceeds from this session will be donated to help Chloé’s fundraising for Easter Seals.

The Vancouver Drop Zone challenges fearless participants to fundraise a minimum of $1000 in support of Easter Seals for the rare opportunity to rappel down a skyscraper. The hard earned funds support two essential services that Easter Seals BC provides: Easter Seals House and Camps. Easter Seals House in Vancouver provides a low cost, caring place to stay for more than 100 parents and children every night. The camps offer once-in-a-lifetime, week-long camping experiences for approximately 800 children. Easter Seals is dedicated to fully enhancing the quality of life, self-esteem and self-determination of Canadians living with disabilities.
