Beyond the Basics is a 5-week long, comprehensive novice climbing course to elevate your climbing to the next level! It has been designed to provide in-depth skills development, teaching the following tools and techniques:

Beginner to Intermediate

Once you have mastered the top rope skills from the intro belay course, you are ready for the next step in your evolution as a climber. Learn about dynamic belay techniques, clipping, hazard awareness, fall forces, and fall arrest using the dynamic belay method. Everything you need to know in order to lead climb indoors.

This course explores the fundamentals of climbing movement. Warm ups and cool downs, footwork, body positioning, grip choice, balanced movement, and mental preparation. Basic stuff yes, but practices even experienced climbers need to focus on in order to climb with maximum efficiency.

Beginner to Intermediate

This course builds on the techniques and principles taught in Technical Climbing 1. Now that you have the fundamentals down, we look to build upon these concepts. We revisit a few basic principles of footwork, weight transfers, and efficient body positions, in order to prepare you to think about climbing in a new way. Topics covered include; how to climb efficiently, mental preparedness and focus, training endurance and power, and effective strategies for red-pointing. This course is designed for the intermediate level climber looking to climb beyond plateaus.

100 Level Workshops

Currently not offered due to COVID-19

These 100-level classes are a way to continue the education for recreational climbers who are not looking for term-long commitments and want to hone specific skills in a very focused and concentrated class.

Slab can be your best friend or your worst enemy; there tends to be very little in-between. If you are of the opinion that slab is scary, then this is the class for you! We will cover balance, slab techniques and on tools to support you through mental barriers with this style of climbing.

Fly high with this class, where we teach you everything you need to know to jump, leap and bound your way from one move to the next. We show you how to set your dyno up for success with body positioning, and provide even the most timid and static climber with the building blocks to become a confident dyno-er. Is that even a word? In recent years mobility has come to the forefront of sport as being a critical element in training. With climbing it is not just about being strong and being flexible, but also being mobile; this means being able to put your body into unusual positions, through an entire range of motion. This class covers the basics of why mobility is important to your climbing, which parts of the body to focus on and what some exercises might look like.

Hangboarding can elevate your climbing substantially if done correctly, but if done poorly can result in career-ending injuries even for a recreational climber. This class aims to cover all the fundamentals you need to know to begin hangboard training safely. This class is intended for those who have been climbing at for 6 months or more.
