Youth Development Team

Ages 11-15

$460 + gst

Discover for yourself – gear your training towards Competition Climbing or Performance for Life. The development team is for athletes looking to learn about, and prepare for climbing competitions and performance climbing. Athletes will have to option to compete while training in this program.

  • Learn competition formats and tactics
  • Discover lead climbing and lead belaying
  • Develop transferable indoor to outdoor skills and knowledge

Details

  • Program Period: 12 weeks from Sept 10th – Dec 9th, 2018 / No classes on Monday, October 8th (Thanksgiving) and Sunday, November 11th (Remembrance Day).
  • Course Days/Times: 2x per week – Thursday (5:00-7:00pm) or Friday (4:00-6:00pm), AND Sunday (9:00-11:00am)

Prerequisites
Climbing FUNdamentals 2 or Coaches’ approval – it is expected that participants join Climbing Fundamentals 2 for 2-3 seasons before moving on to the Development Team.

Performance4Life Team

Ages 13-19

$524 + gst

Enjoy the power that comes with training for personal enjoyment and growth. This course is intended for athletes who would like to continue pursuing personal climbing performance, but who do not wish to compete on a regular basis.

Details

  • Program Period: 12 weeks from Sept 10th – Dec 9th, 2018 / No classes on Monday, October 8th (Thanksgiving) and Sunday, November 11th (Remembrance Day).
  • Course Days/Times: 2x per week – Tuesday (4:00-6:30pm) or Friday (4:00-6:30pm), AND Sunday (9:00-11:30am)

Prerequisites
Climbing FUNdamentals or Development Team, and coaches’ recommendation.

Comp Performance Team 1

Ages 12-16 (with 2-4 years of competitive experience)

$1265 + gst

Train with top coach Andrew Wilson; grow your knowledge, skill and mental/physical power and strength. Climbers follow a training program with the goal of competing; designed for athletes between the ages of 12-16 years old with 2-4 years of competitive experience.

Details

  • Program Period: Sept 10th – end of February 2019 / No classes on Monday, October 8th (Thanksgiving) and Sunday, November 11th (Remembrance Day).
  • Course Days: 3x per week (Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday)
  • Time: Tuesday and Thursday: 4:00-7:00pm, Saturday 8:00-11:00am

Coaches’ recommendation.

Comp Performance Team 2

Ages 15-19 (with 4+ years of competitive experience)

$1265 + gst – includes Fortius fees

Train with top coach Andrew Wilson: grow your knowledge, skill and mental/physical power and strength. Climbers follow a training program with the goal of competing – designed for athletes between the ages of 15-19 years old with 4+ years of competitive experience.

  • Program Period: Sept 10th – end of February 2019 / No classes on Monday, October 8th (Thanksgiving) and Sunday, November 11th (Remembrance Day).
  • Course Days: 3x per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday)
  • Time: Monday and Wednesday: 4:00-7:00pm, Saturday 8:00-11:00am

Open Performance Team

Being on The Open Performance Team

Athletes on our Open Performance Team are committed to the pursuit of competition results and/or significant and noteworthy outdoor objectives. Team members are dedicated to training and growing the community. They are also willing to be coached in the realm of training methods, communication skills, professionalism and new concepts are essential. Athletes are not required to be Climb Base5 members.

The Open Performance Team members are not only expected to maintain a high performance and excellence in their athletic development, but members also following a strict program. This program includes two days of coaching per week and a personalized training program. Athletes have access to coaching at events and input from other sport science professionals (access to physiotherapist and other professionals may require additional user fees). Team members will be expected to give back to the Base5 community through mentoring, event support and roles within team logistics.

  • Kyle Murdoch – Multiple podiums youth national events in lead and bouldering
  • Simon Parton – V15 redpoint (2nd Canadian) – Terremer, Hueco Tank
  • Derek Runions – 5.13a Just Can’t Do It, Chek Canyon
  • Alannah Yip – National Lead and Boulder Champion, 1st and Only Canadian Female to make a World Cup Final

The Coaches

Andrew Wilson – With over 20 years coaching including 10 years as National Team Head Coach, Andrew is one of the most experienced competition climbing coaches anywhere. He loves the athlete/coach relationship and is passionate about the psychological processes of performance.

Len Chong, BScPT, BSc – After an athletic career in high level gymnastics, Len found climbing and has pursued it passionately while finishing his Physiotherapy degree in Australia. He excels at the biomechanical analysis of climbing movement and training methods. Len is also the resident ‘fixer’ of all manner of athletic ailments He works at Salus Physiotherapy in Vancouver.

The application process for the 2017/2018 team is now closed.

  • To identify new athletes for selection to the Climb Base5 Open Performance Team. Athletes selected will represent Climb Base5 with the specific goals of competing and performing at the highest level of the sport.
  • To provide prospective athletes a clear understanding of the expectations and responsibilities that selection to the team requires.

Prospective team members will be required to submit the following:

  • Online Application: Athletes will submit an application that includes a bio, climbing resume, competition or performance climbing history, training history and future goals. Online applications must be submitted no later than 12AM PST, August 17th, 2017.
  • Phone Interview: Only selected athletes from the online application process will be interviewed. Interviews will be conducted between August 22nd ? September 8th, 2017.
  • Trial Session(s): After the interview, athletes may be invited to attend team training on a trial basis for final assessments. Trial Sessions will occur in September 2017.

The panel who will decide on the athletes to join Climb Base5’s Open Performance Team will include team coaches (Andrew Wilson and Len Chong) and the gym owner (Daniel Poggi).
